Magnetic Flowmeter
The magnetic flowmeter, sometimes called a Magflo or Magmeter operates based on Faraday’s Law, which states that the voltage induced across any conductor as it moves at right angles through a magnetic field is proportional to the velocity of that conductor.

A complete magnetic flowmeter system consists of two components: a microprocessor-based integral-mount magnetic flowmeter transmitter and a flow tube. The flow tube is installed in-line with process piping, either vertically or horizontally. Coils located on opposite sides of the flow tube create a magnetic field, and a conductive liquid moving through the magnetic field generates a voltage that is detected by two electrodes. The transmitter controls the generation of the magnetic field and senses the voltage detected by the electrodes. Based on the sensed voltage, the transmitter calculates a flow rate and produces analogue and frequency output signals proportional to this flow rate.

The solution to be measured must be a conductive solution greater than 5µS/cm. The Magnetic flowmeter requires a full pipe to measure accurately and can be used for the flow measurement of abrasive and dirty liquids with suspended solids. Viscosity, temperature, density and pressure do not affect the flow measurement when using the magnetic flowmeter.

Two variations of the flowmeter are available, a compact version and a version with remote electronics for applications where local mounting of the electronics is not suitable, for example flow measurement of high temperature liquids.

LTH offer three types of Magnetic flowmeters – The Pmag, RPmag62 and the Smag62.

The Rpmag62 magnetic flowmeters are available to suit pipe sizes from 10mm up to 1600mm, can have either a rubber or PTFE lining with a choice of electrode materials; Stainless steel, Hastelloy B, Hastelloy C, Titanium or Tantalum.

The Pmag magnetic flowmeters are available to suit pipe sizes from 10mm up to 1000mm, can have either a rubber or PTFE lining with a choice of Stainless steel or Hastelloy C as the electrode materials.

The Smag62magnetic flowmeters have a Stainless steel body and are available to suit pipe sizes from 10mm up to 150mm and are designed for use in pharmaceutical, food, dairy and beverage applications. They have either a PFA or PTFE lining with a choice of electrode materials; Stainless steel, Hastelloy C, Titanium or Tantalum. The Smag62 magnetic flowmeters have a DIN11851 or DIN SS304 ISO2852 Clamp process connection.
